Alteration of motility/rate of gastric emptying. Advantages and disadvantages

1. Cathartics (substance that accelerates defecation)

- increasing the gastrointestinal motility has both advantages for some drugs to pass
through GI and also disadvantages for others by decreasing the absorption due to the
low activity of the drug. Especially problem happens to enteric-coated and
controlled-release formulations.

2. Anticholinergics
- Decreasing the motility of gastrointestinal may influence the absorption. Since the
peristalsis may retard dissolution and the slow of gastric may delay absorption from
the small intestine.

3. Metoclopramide
- It increases gastrointestinal mobility then influence the absorption of other drug
